Surf’n’Turf

Our celebratory dinner.

First, marinade the prawns. A simple marinade, consisting of olive oil, garlic, chilli, salt and pepper.

Hello, prawn!

Second, start the roast potatoes. They take forever but it’s worth the wait. No, not on the barbecue. In the oven.

After a reasonable interval for the potatoes to get a head start, put steak, prawns and veggies on barbecue.

A few minutes later, the finished product.

Advance, Australia Fair!

Animal Portraits

We were hoping for some more pictures of baby ibises but they were hiding today. Still, plenty of other photogenic subjects.

Shooter’s Sandwich

How to make a Shooter’s Sandwich. We found the recipe online and decided to give it a go.

First, fry up some bacon. Admittedly this was not in the recipe but how could this be wrong?

Next, add finely-chopped onions and some garlic.

Next, a mountain of chopped mushrooms.

Sauté for a long time.

Meanwhile, hollow out a circular loaf of bread. We made breadcrumbs out of the filling and froze them for later.

Barbecue two scotch fillet steaks. Put one into the hollowed-out loaf.

Put the onion/mushroom mixture on top.

I know it looks full now. Squeeze in the second steak anyway, and add some mustard and horseradish.

Put lid back on.

Wrap up securely: a double-layer of baking paper, and a double layer of foil.

Put a heavy weight on it and leave for a few hours. After that, put in fridge until needed.

Then, nom! It was delicious and well worth the effort.

Urban-ish Wildlife

It was a beautiful day, and as usual the Botanical Gardens came up with the goods. For “goods” = “photographic opportunities”.

Macro Day

Today I practiced taking macro shots. What better things to do on a beautiful, warm, sunny  winter day?

There is one non-macro shot in the gallery. Can you spot which one?
