Happy New Year 2014 to everyone! Let’s start the photographic year with the Botanical Gardens. It’s  a hot, sunny day and the sprinklers were going full-tilt, to the delight of adults and children alike.

Bunya Pine Characteristics

This, believe it or not, is a pine cone. A bunya pine cone, to be precise. This time of year, the Bunya pines drop these. They weigh about 10kg.

You wouldn’t want one to fall on your head…. Which is why standing under a bunya pine, proudly holding up a fallen cone, is not recommended.

Lace Monitors

Yesterday’s outing to Enoggera Reservoir yielded a total of three lace monitors, all of them very photogenic.

Additionally, a lapwing with chicks, nearly invisible against the water lilies, some cormorants, and some flora.
